maybe ally...sees “Gypsy”.
A Triumphant Return to Broadway.
The 2024 revival of “Gypsy” starring the incomparable Audra McDonald is a masterclass in acting, singing, and emotional depth. McDonald’s portrayal of Mama Rose, the fiercely ambitious and complex mother of Gypsy Rose Lee, is nothing short of breathtaking.
With her powerful voice and nuanced acting, McDonald brings a new level of vulnerability and humanity to the iconic role. Her chemistry with the talented cast, including a standout performance by Joy Woods who plays Louise/Gypsy is undeniable. Truly watching the two together made me smile so hard and my heart filled with joy.
The production’s clever staging, sumptuous costumes, and nostalgic set design perfectly capture the essence of 1950s vaudeville and the golden age of Broadway. The renovations to the Majestic Theatre help with this as well. It is beautiful in there. money well spent in my opinion.
Overall, this revival of “Gypsy” is a must-see for musical theater enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Audra McDonald’s tour-de-force performance is an unforgettable experience that will leave you in awe. The Tony race is tighter than ever for this season but I can easily see Audra going for a new record here.

Okay, so let me start by saying: Floyd Collins was not at all what I expected. And honestly? I think that’s the point.
I saw it on a cold spring night — the kind of night where New York City feels exceptionally cinematic and moody — and I went in knowing very little besides the fact that “Jeremy Jordan is in it” (which, let’s be real, was undoubtedly more than enough to entice me to make the trip). But what I experienced was something far more haunting, intimate, and emotionally layered than I could have ever imagined.
