the october edit.
october in new york city is probably one of my favorite times to get dressed.
the weather finally gives us an excuse to pull out the jackets, boots, denim, sweaters, and all the little accessories that make an outfit feel like fall. it’s that sweet spot before winter dressing takes over — when you can still leave the house without five layers and a coat that weighs more than you do.
For October, I’m leaning into a blend of classic fall staples and a few more personality-driven details. Think rich, autumnal colors, really great jackets, well-fitting dark denim, chocolate-brown boots, and accessories that make even a simple jeans-and-sweater outfit feel thoughtful and intentionally styled.
so, here’s what’s catching my eye for october 2026.
1. rich fall colors
first up: color.
fall fashion always brings out the burgundies, browns, deep reds, and other richer shades, but this year i’m especially into colors that feel warm and a little dramatic without being too much.
think burgundy, chocolate brown, deep plum, olive, and warm tobacco tones.
you don't have to wear head-to-toe color, either. a burgundy cardigan with jeans, a chocolate-brown bag with an all-black outfit, or even a pair of colored shoes can completely change the feel of a look.
one piece i’m loving for this is the Quince Mongolian Cashmere Structured Cardigan in Rich Burgundy. it has that cozy-but-polished feeling that works perfectly for october.
and if burgundy isn't your thing, chocolate brown is having a serious moment too. it feels softer than black but still gives you that classic fall look.
2. the statement jacket
october is when jackets finally get to be the main character.
this season, i’m seeing a lot of leather, suede, oversized shapes, and structured outerwear. basically, the jacket doesn't have to disappear into the outfit anymore — it can be the outfit.
a good leather jacket is still one of those pieces i think is worth having because you can wear it with jeans and sneakers during the day, then throw it over a dress or skirt for dinner.
3. dark denim + polished basics
october feels like the perfect month to get back to really good basics.
dark-wash denim is having a moment for fall, especially straight-leg and streamlined silhouettes. and honestly, i love this because sometimes the easiest outfit is still the best one.
dark jeans + a white button-down + loafers.
dark jeans + a sweater + a leather jacket.
dark jeans + a fitted tee + a great coat.
you get the idea.
this is also the month where i want my basics to feel a little more intentional — crisp shirts, simple knits, structured jackets, good denim, and shoes that pull everything together.
4. tall boots + really good fall shoes
october is officially boot season in my book.
knee-high boots are back in a big way, and i'm particularly into chocolate brown and other warm neutral shades instead of automatically reaching for black.
they work with jeans, dresses, skirts, and even shorts when the weather is still giving us those random 65-degree days.
but boots aren't the only shoes getting attention this fall. loafers, ballet flats, cap-toe shoes, and other polished everyday styles are also having a moment.
basically, october is about shoes that make the outfit feel finished — whether that's a tall boot, a loafer, or a really good flat.
5. accessories with personality
and finally, let's talk about the little things.
one of the biggest things i'm noticing for fall is that accessories are doing a lot more of the talking. instead of building an outfit around ten different trends, you can keep everything simple and let one accessory bring the personality.
a beautiful scarf.
a statement necklace.
a really good pair of sunglasses.
a structured bag.
a brooch.
or, honestly, just a bag in a color or texture that makes you stop and look twice.
i'm especially into suede bags for fall. they instantly make an outfit feel a little richer and more seasonal without requiring much effort.
october fashion, to me, is all about finding that balance between cozy and put-together.
i want the sweaters, the boots, the jackets, and the darker colors — but i also want my outfits to still feel like me. so this month, i'm reaching for rich fall hues, a standout statement jacket, dark denim, tall boots, and thoughtful accessories that give even the simplest look a touch of personality.
because honestly, that's my favorite kind of fall dressing: pieces that feel easy enough for everyday life in new york, but special enough that you actually feel excited to put them on.
