how to dress for your curves.
Today we’re diving into something that’s truly close to my heart and, let’s be honest, a big part of my daily life and closet: how to dress your curves. And I’m not talking about “how to hide them.” Nope, that’s definitely not the vibe here.
This is all about how to genuinely celebrate your body, feel confident and downright amazing every time you walk out the door, and discover your unique version of style — one that isn’t afraid to embrace a curve, highlight a waist, or boldly say “hi, yes, this is me and I look absolutely incredible.”
if you grew up anything like i did — dominican, puerto rican, latina, with a body that was “grown woman” before you were even grown — you probably had moments (or whole seasons) where you felt like your curves made you too much. too loud, too sexy, too noticeable.
but let me say it loud for the dolls in the back:
your body is not a problem to solve. your curves are not something to fix.
they’re a part of your story. and your closet should dress for you, not fight against you.
so here it is — my go-to guide for dressing curves in a way that feels joyful, chic, confident, and true to you.
👗 1. Fit Over Size. Every Time.
the number on the tag? irrelevant. truly. it’s about fit. you want pieces that skim, shape, and move with your body — not fight it. sometimes that means sizing up for a smoother drape or sizing down for that snatched look. go with what feels right. trust your mirror more than the label.
tip: if you’re between sizes, consider a tailor. a $10 tweak can turn an okay dress into the dress.
👚 2. Highlight Your Waist
your waist is your power move. it creates shape, structure, and balance. whether it’s with a belt, a wrap dress, or high-waisted trousers, accentuating your waist brings your entire silhouette to life.
go-to pieces:
wrap tops & dresses
paper bag or belted pants
peplum cuts
cropped jackets that hit right at the waist
👖 3. Balance is Everything
curves can shine with contrast. if you’re wearing a body-hugging bottom (like a fitted midi skirt or skinny jeans), try pairing it with a looser top or structured blazer. same goes in reverse: flowy maxi skirt? try a more fitted tank or tucked-in tee.
pro tip: the goal isn’t to “hide” anything — it’s to let each part of your outfit compliment the other. think: harmony, not hiding.
🖤 4. Embrace Stretch (But Make It Elevated)
i love a good stretch moment. knits, ribbed fabrics, and jersey can be so flattering — just make sure they’ve got a little weight to them so they skim instead of cling. and don’t be afraid of a bodycon dress — you can always layer with a duster or denim jacket if you want a little coverage.
favorites:
ribbed midi dresses
knit sets
high-rise bike shorts + oversized tee (aka my sunday brunch uniform)
🧥 5. Invest in Outerwear That Frames You
a great jacket is a curvy girl’s secret weapon. trench coats, cropped puffers, belted blazers — they frame your shape and instantly elevate whatever you’re wearing underneath.
tip: look for coats with built-in structure or cinching at the waist. boxy is cute only when it’s intentional.
👠 6. Shoes Matter — Play With Proportion
Chunky boots, sleek heels, platform sneakers — don’t forget that shoes play a crucial role in balancing your overall shape and enhancing your outfit. Sometimes, simply adding a heel, even a low one, can elongate the leg and completely transform the vibe and energy of your entire look.
my staples:
square-toe heels
pointed boots
classic white platforms
slides with a little structure
💡 7. Confidence Is the Main Character
i know this sounds cheesy, but it’s true: when you feel good, it shows. walk like your curves are exactly where they’re meant to be. because they are.
don’t wait until you lose the weight. don’t wait until summer’s over. wear the dress. rock the bold color. show up like the main character you are.
try this: next time you’re shopping or getting dressed, ask yourself:
“does this make me feel powerful? playful? like me?”
if it doesn’t — put it back. we’re not settling in 2025.
💋 8. Style Inspiration Is All Around
i find so much style inspo from other curvy women — on instagram, in nyc streets, in vintage stores uptown. follow creators who look like you. save outfits that make you pause. experiment. try a new silhouette, then remix it with your own vibe.
follow with intention: surround yourself with style that makes you feel seen, not pressured to shrink.
👒 summer 2025 vibe check:
This season is truly giving linen sets, effortless off-the-shoulder moments, curve-hugging dresses paired effortlessly with sneakers, and breezy button-down shirts left artfully half open. It’s all about ease and comfort. About embracing joy in your everyday style. It’s about confidently wearing what makes you feel both held and hot at the very same time, capturing that perfect blend of relaxed cool and undeniable allure.
one last thing —
your curves are not a trend. they’re not something to dress “around.” they are beautiful, strong, and deserving of clothes that fit, flatter, and fuel your confidence.
this isn’t about rules — it’s about permission. to take up space. to feel amazing in your skin. to wear the crop top if you want to. to stop waiting.
because you — just as you are — are worth dressing up for.
p.s. i keep all my faves — from the gloss i wear in every vlog to the candle i burn while editing — right here.
because sometimes you’ve got 20 minutes and a dream.
let me set the scene: you’ve snoozed your alarm three times, your iced coffee is sweating on the counter, and you need to be out the door in less time than it takes to finish an episode of sex and the city.
been there. too often.
this is the lazy girl guide — aka how i get myself looking cute, put together, and semi-awake with minimal effort. think soft glam, low lift, and still catching the train on time.
