Where I Go in NYC to Feel Inspired.

There’s something about New York City that constantly reminds me to pay attention.

Maybe it’s the way the light hits a brownstone on a quiet side street. Maybe it’s overhearing a conversation at a coffee shop or stumbling into a bookstore I somehow never noticed before. Living in Harlem has taught me that inspiration isn’t always found in big moments. More often, it’s tucked into the everyday.

As someone who creates content, writes blog posts, films YouTube videos, and documents life in NYC, finding inspiration is part of my job. Thankfully, this city makes it easy.

These are the places I return to whenever I need a creative reset.

Harlem's Streets

I know this might sound obvious, but one of my favorite places to feel inspired is simply my own neighborhood.

Walking through Harlem reminds me of why I started sharing my life online in the first place. There is so much history, culture, creativity, and community here. Some days, I’ll grab a latte and spend an hour wandering without a destination. The architecture, local businesses, music drifting from open windows, and everyday moments all spark ideas.

Many of my blog posts, videos, and newsletter topics begin during these walks.

The New York Public Library

Whenever I feel creatively stuck, I head to the library.

There is something incredibly grounding about being surrounded by books, ideas, and people quietly working on their own projects. Even if I don’t check out a single book, spending an hour reading magazines, browsing shelves, or journaling helps me reconnect with my creativity.

The main branch always reminds me that inspiration and curiosity go hand in hand.

Coffee Shops Around the City

Anyone who follows me knows that coffee shops are basically my second home.

I love settling into a cozy corner with my laptop, headphones, and an oat milk latte. Sometimes I go specifically to work. Other times, I simply people-watch and let my mind wander.

Coffee shops remind me that creativity doesn’t always happen at a desk. Sometimes the best ideas arrive when you’re observing the world around you.

Many of my YouTube video concepts and newsletter ideas have started as a random note typed into my phone while sitting in a café.

The Museum of the Moving Image

One of my favorite museums in New York City is the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.

As someone who loves storytelling and video creation, visiting this museum always leaves me energized. Seeing the history of film, television, and media reminds me why I enjoy creating content in the first place.

Whenever I visit, I leave wanting to experiment more with my videos, improve my storytelling, and try new creative ideas.

Central Park

When city life starts feeling a little too loud, Central Park helps me reset.

I love finding a bench, taking a walk, or simply sitting with no agenda. The combination of nature and the city skyline always feels magical.

Some of my best ideas arrive when I’m not actively looking for them. A quiet hour in the park often does more for my creativity than forcing myself to stare at a blank screen.

Bookstores

Independent bookstores might be one of New York’s greatest treasures.

I can spend hours browsing new releases, beautiful coffee table books, travel guides, and memoirs. Even if I leave empty-handed, I always walk away inspired.

Reading how other people tell stories encourages me to keep sharing my own.

The West Village

Whenever I need to romanticize life a little, I head downtown.

The West Village feels like stepping into a movie. The charming streets, historic buildings, small cafés, and boutique shops make me slow down and notice details.

It’s one of my favorite places to walk with my camera and collect inspiration for future blog posts, videos, and photos.

Inspiration Usually Finds Me When I'm Paying Attention

I’ve learned that creativity isn’t something I can force.

The ideas that become my favorite blog posts, YouTube videos, and newsletter editions usually come from ordinary moments: a walk through Harlem, a museum visit, a coffee shop conversation, a quiet afternoon in the park.

Living in New York City constantly reminds me that inspiration is everywhere if you’re willing to notice it.

And honestly, that’s one of the many reasons I still love calling this city home.
