POLKA DOTS (an Essay).
What is it about polka dots that make any Disney Style come to life? You could say Minnie Mouse plays a role but also the print itself is so lively and so robust it’s hard not to wear it even when the outfit isn’t Disney inspired.
Why are Polka Dots a mainstay in Disney Style? How do I use them in my outfits?
Let’s get into It!
“Polka dots are commonly seen on children's clothing, toys, furniture, ceramics, and Central European folk art but they appear in a wide array of contexts. The pattern rarely appears in formal contexts, and is generally confined to more playful attire such as bathing suits and lingerie. Occasionally, white-on-black small dots appear on more formal clothing”. - Wikipedia
SO WHY DO WE LOVE POLKA DOTS SO MUCH?
Simply put…It’s FUN! It works in terms of Disney Styles because it is such a fun print, it belongs to a style icon in Minnie Mouse and it helps create meaningful looks for those who post on IG. It’s a print that’s been around for so long that you can create vintage looks easily with it or make it more modern with a polka jean or something.
The possibilities are endless with this print.

HOW DO I USE POLKA DOTS IN MY OUTFITS?
It’s pretty amazing actually. I’ve been a lover of polka dots since I was a little girl. My love of Disney started young and Minnie Mouse became a forever style icon for me. In my head, I always thought “If Minnie can wear Polka Dots so can I”. That mentality stayed with me all my life. Usually, you’ll find me in head-to-toe polka dots (in dress form) or in one piece ( a top or a bottom with a solid color base).
In the end, Polka Dots prove to be such a dynamic and interesting print that’s full of life and full of ambition. It’s a print that goes with just about any outfit, so get out there and wear it!
there's something about august in new york city that feels different.
the city is still buzzing, but the pace starts to slow just enough to notice. the sunsets come a little earlier, the humidity finally gives you a break (sometimes), and suddenly everyone is talking about fall—even though we're still wearing sandals.
i've always loved this in-between season because getting dressed becomes more creative. it's less about chasing every summer trend and more about mixing the pieces you've been loving all season with a few hints of what's coming next.
here's what's inspiring my wardrobe this august.
